He is a perpetual student of humanity and continues to learn and grow every day so that he can use his learnings to help other people

Born to a Catholic family in Guadalajara, his religious roots deeply inform his understanding of the Hispanic culture.  He also studied Taoism, and has taught Tai Chi Chuan to senior citizens for years, and this additional perspective has helped him to find balance and how to listen to his inner wisdom, and assist patients to listen to theirs and find their balance.

Juan also spent time living in Canada and the United States, so he has personal experience with what it’s like to be a Mexican man living in a completely different culture and trying to assimilate.

Also contributing greatly to his patience and awareness of people’s readiness for growth and change, was the psychology internship he did with the Huicholes (Wixárika) people in Jalisco, Mexico (Indigenous people), where he lived among the community; experience that also helped him expand his vision of the humans and the world.

In his therapy sessions, Juan fully understands that at first, people could doubt the process.  He loves though, when people start to question him and his method; he sees that as they are beginning to take control of their own life – that they are becoming committed to themselves, committed to change, and committed to do the work necessary to heal.

When not working with patients, Juan spends time with his wife Ursula and his two young kids, Alondra and Dario, as well as keeping in shape through running, mountain-biking, hiking, and more recently yoga.

rocio@marriagerecoverycenter.com

She is a Mom, a wife, and an experienced professional with many career experiences prior to having her thriving therapy practice.  So she very much understands human nature, as well as the balance that those in the Hispanic culture must find when it comes to family and work and themselves.

Her approach is completely integrative, blending elements from all of the psychological perspectives in order to tailor her treatment to each person’s needs.

And she does not shy away from the more difficult situations such as physical abuse, sexual abuse, or thoughts of suicide.  But rather, she is deeply grounded within herself, and welcomes everyone with grace, compassion, and understanding.

In Rocio’s own words, “I help those people who feel dissatisfied, insecure, who do not trust their decisions, who want to run away, and whose fear paralyzes them from moving forward.”

Rocio is also a lifelong learner, and is currently studying for a master’s in clinical psychology.

When not focused on helping her clients heal and grow, she spends time with her family, including Valentino (her one-eyed cat), and practices running and yoga.

FAQ

The research shows that therapy delivered in a person’s native language can be as much as 50% more effective.

We choose therapists that have significant life experience (not young and just out of school trying to figure out life).  Our team lives in Mexico and understands the beauty and challenge of being Hispanic, so they are able to speak your language and understand your challenges.  Also our team meets regularly to continue their eductaiotn and to challenge one another on how they can do better to support clients. Most other therapists operate in a vacuum and only know what they know.

There are the top 10 things to think about when choosing a therapist:  rapport, rapport, rapport, rapport, rapport, rapport, rapport, rapport, rapport, rapport).  While there are many modalities/types of therapy, and all can be helpful, the effectiveness of any therapy predominantly weighs on working with someone you like, who you trust, who you feel is there for you.  If you’re not sure, we encourage to schedule a free consultation to see for yourself.

Generally once a week for an hour is the minimum dose in order to keep the therapeutic relationship active and moving forward.  Anything less and the conversation tends to be more about catching up, rather than working on/towards healthy change.  But for more intense/pressing problems, clients might meet for more time per session, or even for as many as two or three times a week.

You can expect that your therapist will show up on time, be ready for the conversation, and be ever curious to explore with you – much like a friend would.  Our therapists are incredibly skilled in life and in their work, and so they can be creative and flexible in order to move with your needs.  Your role is to show up open and vulnerable and willing to question the things in your life that aren’t working, in order to find a new and better pathway forward.

$100US per therapy hour (generally 50 minutes – leaving time for the therapist to take notes after the session, use the bathroom, get a glass of water etc.).

We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express).

We have a 24 hour cancellation policy.  So if you cancel within 24 hours of your scheduled session, you will be billed for the session.

We do not accept insurance directly, but we can generate an invoice for you to submit to your insurance carrier for reimbursement.

Absolutely, everything that you share with your therapist is completely confidential and will not be share with anyone else, unless 1) you let us know in advance that we can share with a particular person, and 2) if we feel that your life is in jeopardy (we have a higher duty to protect your life than your confidentiality).

It’s easy!  You can use our scheduling software and do it all yourself.  Simply choose your preferred therapist, and the amount of time you want to book, and when, and confirm your appointment.  Everything else is taken care of (reminder messages and billing).

I am originally from Sonora, but now living in Arizona. Raising three kids in a completely different culture has been confusing and overwhelming at times. I needed help and perspective in order to understand how to be a good Spanish mother and also to provide more opportunity to my kids than I ever had. Conversations with Rocio were very helpful, as she has children of her own. She helped me balance my own values with those of a completely different culture. And she was very kind to me in the process. I highly recommend her.

Still working through patriarchal patterns after 42 years of marriage and more than 20 years in the States. Diego drinks to excess and Isabella has codependent tendencies, and often feels alone. Their kids are grown and out of the house, and now they're trying to find a new version of their relationship that works.
